Malaysia Day ??

all I know it is about the 50 anniversary of federal government of Malaysia, every afternoon on 5.00 pm on tv1, it always show that sabah and Sarawak achieved much development since merdeka in Malaysia…. I wonder because  Sarawak merdeka on 22^nd july 1963 as a new country, not under british colony but why does pro-gahmen media called them gain independence form the foundation of Malaysia?
